Strategic Focus

The Prevention priority area focuses on reducing cancer risk through coordinated, evidence-based strategies that address modifiable risk factors and support population-level impact across Idaho.

Plan Goals

  • Reduce adult tobacco use by at least 2% by 2030

  • Reduce frequent tobacco and vape use among Idaho students

  • Increase the percentage of adults at a healthy weight by at least 3%

  • Reduce youth exposure to ultraviolet radiation through community-based interventions

  • Increase HPV and Hepatitis B vaccination rates to prevent cancer

  • Increase the percentage of households tested for radon

These goals are supported through coordinated strategies that focus on systems-level change and partner alignment across the state.

Implementation

Implementation is supported through collaboration with public health programs, healthcare systems, and community partners. The Prevention Workgroup coordinates activities, aligns partners, and advances strategies that support statewide cancer prevention priorities.

Progress within this priority area is tracked through defined indicators aligned with the Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan.

The Prevention Workgroup supports implementation of statewide cancer prevention strategies by coordinating partners, aligning efforts, and advancing evidence-based approaches to reduce cancer risk across Idaho.

Participation is open to partners across sectors working to advance prevention priorities.
